Have you considered switching to a non toxic deodorant but are intimidated by the bad reputation that natural deodorant gets? If so this article is for you.
Natural deodorant has not always been the most reliable option, but trust me, it’s because you haven’t tried these. Just like anything else, not all non-toxic deodorants are created equal. In my opinion, these are the best natural deodorants out there, so let’s get into it.
Why I Use Natural Non Toxic
Deodorant
A few years ago, I started to take a serious look at what we were putting into our body. While I was on that journey, I stumbled upon the idea that what you put on your body is also absorbed into your body at a rate of approximately 64%.
In other words, all of the cosmetic products we apply daily are actually penetrating through our skin. SCARY!
I know many people, including my husband who has terrible reactions to traditional deodorants. Skin irritation so bad it would hurt to put his arm down. After making the switch to non-toxic deodorant, he had zero allergic reactions.
Conventional Deodorant
Everything from lotion, to shampoo, to perfume, it’s all leaching into our bloodstream. When you consider what chemicals are in these products you really start to worry. Aluminum, phthalates, fragrance just to name a few.
The United States has little regulation on cosmetic products banning only a handful of ingredients, where Europe has a growing list of 2800+ ingredients prohibited from cosmetic products.
The active ingredient in conventional deodorant are potential hormone disruptors, can also affect reproductive ability, and might even be linked to breast cancer.
The Trust About Aluminum
Aluminum is used in traditional antiperspirants because it actually has the ability to clog the pores (or sweat glands), preventing you from sweating. That sounds great until you realize that sweating is your body’s way of regulating your temperature.
Sweating also does a lot of really good things and the last thing you want to do is prevent your body from doing that.
On another note, aluminum salts (and parabens) have been said to be endocrine disruptors, meaning they mimic and mess with your hormones. Which in turn messes with your overall health. That being said, lets dive into the best non-toxic deodorant brands on the market.
