As someone who has suffered with adult acne, I am constantly trying new products that don’t break me out. Over the years I have learned what works and what doesn’t. Here are my favorite natural face moisturizers for acne-prone skin.

Acne-Prone Skin

If you have acne-prone skin, you definitely need to be using non-comedogenic products. I didn’t learn this until recently and trust me, I wish I knew sooner.

Comedogenic is another word for pore clogger (unofficially). There is actually a scale that rates ingredients from 0-5, with 5 being the worst.

When it comes to acne-prone skin, you definitely want to shoot for products ranking a 2 or lower. Even if you are eating healthy and properly washing your skin, but still using comedogenic products, you will continue to break out.

Natural Ingredients

Even natural ingredients can cause breaks out. For example, coconut oil may have some wonderful benefits when it comes to your skin, but it’s also high (4) on the comedogenic scale. On the other hand, jojoba oil and Shea butter are safer, ranking 0-2.

Of course there are a zillion skincare acne treatments out there (and don’t get me started on acne medications), but the majority of them are loaded with toxic chemicals. These toxic chemicals, can disrupt hormones and benzene (benzoyl peroxide), a popular acne topical, has recently been established as a human carcinogen.

For all skin care products, you really need to find a good balance between natural ingredients and acne-fighting properties.

Moisturizers for Acne-Prone Skin

Here are some of the best moisturizers safe for acne and free from toxic chemicals.

CLEARSTEM

Clearstem is a brand designed for acne-prone individuals. Their products are also targeted toward sensitive skin and pre-mature aging. The creators of Clearstem, who both suffered from cystic acne, take a holistic approach to treating and healing acne.

This brand uses natural ingredients that contain no pore-clogging ingredients. They also offer a supplement for those suffering with hormonal acne.

Aside from their many great products, I wanted to specifically focus on their moisturizer for acne-prone skin.

HYDRAGLOW™

From dry skin or oily skin, HYDRAGLOW™ is perfect for any skin type. The key ingredients like bakuchiol, squalane, and aloe vera diminishes fine lines working as a natural alternative to retinol.

Backed by a board-certified dermatologist, this moisturizer is hydrating, free from pore-cloggers, and capable of restoring and rejuvenating your damaged skin.

Typology

Typology is a French company, and a B corporation, with social and environmental integrity in mind. Their formulas focus on the essentials -effective, concentrated, and simple ingredients that create incredible products. Not to mention, they source all their extracts from organic farms, using a gentle approach, from places all of the world.

Typology will quiz you on your skin conditions before recommending a handful that perfectly fit your needs. Whether you have excess sebum, dead skin cells, hyperpigmentation, age spots, uneven skin tone, etc. they will provide you with natural solutions.

They even have their products categorized by skin concerns, look for acne products in the blemish-prone section.

With this quiz, you can feel confident knowing you are making an excellent choice. When I took the quiz I was recommended the 9-Ingredient Face Moisturizer and have used it every day since.

9-Ingredient Face Moisturizer

Typology’s facial moisturizer is formulated with active ingredients like hyaluronic acid and is 99% plant derived. As I mentioned, I personally use this product and it provides my skin with a very supple soft feeling. It never feels greasy or heavy. And I only need a small amount to cover my entire face.

This lightweight moisturizer is tested non-comedogenic and does not cause acne breakouts. Also check out their other moisturizers for acne-prone skin.

Earthley

Another natural brand is Earthley. Their Moisturize Me! is a botanical enriched lotion formulated with non-comedogenic like jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, and hemp seed oil. Depending on which skin option you choose (dry, oily or combination) the oil varies.

They also use essential oils like orange, ylang ylang, and lavender for their many beneficial properties. These natural moisturizers are made with only a handful of clean ingredients designed to protect your skin barrier. Always free from parabens, phthalates, fragrances, preservatives, colors, and allergens.

The Earthling Co

The Earthling Co. has a sustainably harvested and certified organic moisturizer for all different skin types. It’s formulated with oceanic ingredients like microalgae and kelp extract.

This non-comedogenic product is created in the USA and free of fragrance, essential oils, artificial colors, sulfates, silicones, palm oil, and parabens. There is also no salicylic acid or mineral oil.

All of these brands are unique in their own way. What they do have in common is their choice of natural non-toxic ingredients that are beneficial to acne-prone skin.

I hope this article “Moisturizers for Acne-Prone Skin” has helped you find the right moisturizer for you. Wishing you wonderful skin hydration!
