In the fight against fast fashion, let’s applaud these remarkable brands.
In my last article, I talked about how thrifting is the superior shopping experience, and I do believe that for many reasons, but it’s not the only option. Thankfully for us, there are some great sustainable clothing brands.
From top to bottom I have you covered. Literally.

Lucky for us, there are some pretty honorable companies out there that put the planet over profits in a number of impressive ways.
Under the Canopy
Starting under the sheets with a company that does a whole range of textiles, I present to you, Under the Canopy. If you are familiar with Under the Canopy, a clothing brand probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. This company has a fantastic selection of bedding, blankets, towels, and surprisingly, apparel. No toxic chemicals here, Under the Canopy uses only 100% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton. With a handful of certificates, including OEKO-TEX, Under the Canopy holds themselves to high standards when it comes to their products. Read more about their sustainability promise here.
Avocado Green
While were in the bedroom, lets continue the conversation with a mattress company – Avocado Green. Avocado is a Certified B Corporation, that takes its carbon footprint very seriously. In 2019, they became Carbon Neutral Certified meaning that it offsets more emissions than it generates. With a mile long list of certifications, they are raising the bar of sustainability. This brand stretches far beyond mattresses, as they have grown into bedding, robes, pajamas, towels, and more. Definitely worth checking out.
Now let’s jump into the tried-and-true clothing brands.
Pact
Leading the pack in the fight against fast fashion, I present to you, Pact. This company prides themselves on organic farming and the benefit that comes along with it. Pact reports organic farming “uses 81% less water and 62% less energy” to produce our everyday clothing. Certified fair trade, they are supporting the community and ensuring safe working conditions to their laborers. Not to mention, their packaging is eco-innovated being completely plastic-free, compostable, and recyclable.
Lastly, I must highlight, Pact has a Give Back Box. This program is a fantastic way to give your old clothing to someone in need of it. This brand works with five charities to provide them with lightly used clothing they may not otherwise have access to. Kudos to them.
For Days
Another company with the future in mind, For Days manufactures 100% recyclable clothing. For Days has one of the largest recycling programs out there today. Keeping your old wardrobe out of the landfill, entirely. All textiles are accepted. From underwear to fitted sheets to handbags, For Days finds a new purpose for each and every piece. Turning them into rags, yarn and insulation.
On a mission to better the unsustainable fashion industry, For Days also produces garments with the end of life in mind. Meaning all the materials that they use can be converted into something else (upcycled) with this recycling program in place.
Cotopaxi
Heading into the outdoor apparel, a personal favorite of mine, Cotopaxi. Named after the world’s highest active volcano,
Cotopaxi says “we consider every phase of a product’s lifecycle, including partnering with factories that treat workers right, sourcing sustainably minded materials, and making durable gear that lasts.”
When it comes to transparency, their website distinctly discloses the factory that each of the goods comes from, for example, activewear is sourced from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. And a code of conduct with their righteous commitment to the entire workforce.

Aside from all the commemorable action they take every day, Cotopaxi is so great (in my opinion) because they upcycle fabrics from other companies’ production lines to create the most unique and beautiful pieces. My boyfriend gifted me a pack for Christmas, buying it he knew what the features and overall style of the bag, but no idea what colors we would receive. The bag was one-of-a-kind, with hand-picked colors, which made it that much more special. The brand has been highly rated, rightly so, because of their durable, quality products.
Patagonia
Another dependable outdoor apparel company that you might be more familiar with, Patagonia. Taking the climate crisis into their own hands, Patagonia is also transparent when it comes to their factories, farms, and mills, with an interactive map with the exact location of each. Patagonia is right when it says one of the best thing we can do is to reduce our overall consumption.
With there Worn Wear program, you can trade in and buy used gear. This program helps them reduce their overall footprint, as well as our own. Patagonia has a old school mentality in mind, as they strive to mend and repair damaged clothing. Furthermore, the brand believes they’re responsible for the clothing they sell, well after they sell it. Which is a characteristic more companies should have. Additionally, the design of their clothing keeps that in mind. With this design comes over 100 different DIY repair guides. Patagonia gives the power to the people with the efforts put toward spreading the word about repairing and caring for their pieces.
With fast fashion on the rapid rise, it’s so important for us to choose sustainable clothing brands. Brands who put the planet over profit. Whether it’s by supporting the wage workers, or by developing recycling programs to fully close the loop.
Each of these companies are commemorable in many ways and continue to strive for excellence every day.
